Sesame Street Hogwarts

Hogwarts. For those of you not in the know, Hogwarts is the main setting of the Harry Potter movies and books. It's a wizard school where Harry, Ron, Hermione and the rest of the characters learn wizardry and have crazy adventures. In Hogwarts, each student is divided into to one of four groups: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.

Now, choosing Harry Potter houses is sort of like a who you are as a person type of question, the house you choose says a lot about your personality, they say, so after thinking about for a few days, I decided to play the role of Sorting Hat, and put our Sesame Street pals into whatever houses they would fit the best in.

This wasn't an easy task mind you, I'm nowhere close to the biggest Harry Potter fan ever, so I had to do my research, and consult more knowledged people. And while results varied, the biggest challenge for me was trying to decipher who went where, because on a surface level, it would look like a good majority/at least 90% of the cast would fit into just one house.

But after doing some more deep thinking, and looking at things more closely, I was able to somewhat evenly divide the muppets I chose into the four houses, and give reasons why. So, with all that said, let's get into it.

Ernie (Gryffindor): Ernie was one of the easier ones. Gryffindors are known for their bravery, sense of fun, and tendency to bend the rules, and Ernie definitely has all of those going for him. Whether it's using Bert's nose to finish a sculpture, imagining himself as a knight in shining armor, or trying to keep alligators away, by putting a banana in his ear, Ernie can always find the fun in any situation, and probably get himself in trouble every now and then.

Bert (Ravenclaw): This is another case you'd think would be plain obvious, but when you dig deeper, it actually makes a lot of sense. Ravenclaws are smart about stuff, because they're passionate about what they're learning about. And Bert has quite a few things he's really passionate about. (Ex: Paper clips, bottle caps, pigeons, oatmeal, etc.) I guarantee if Hogwarts had a paper clip class, or a class that taught you how to make oatmeal, or something like that, Bert would ace it like it's nothing, because that's what he loves. I'm sure he would also love to know what the heck goes on in Ernie's head most of the time, but I don't think anyone can figure that out.

Big Bird (Ravenclaw): I originally wanted put Big Bird in Gryffindor, and I had someone else say that he should be put in Hufflepuff, but after really considering it, I had to put him here. Big Bird is someone who lives by the idea that there's no such thing as a dumb question. Whatever he doesn't know, he wants to find out more about. His passion is learning for the sake of learning. Plus, I think his fellow classmates would really appreciate those roller skating lessons.

Mr. Snuffleupagus (Hufflepuff): Snuffleupagus? More like Hufflepuff-agus, am I right? Ha ha ha ha ha! Anyway, Hufflepuffs are defined by their patience and loyalty. And who's more patient and loyal than Snuffy? The guy who waited 15 years before finally being revealed to all of Sesame Street, and never stopped being Big Bird's best friend at any point during that. Granted he could have been revealed a lot sooner, if he didn't leave all those times Big Bird said he was gonna get his friends to come over, but, you know, things happen. For 15 years.

Grover (Griffyndor): Another easy one. Grover is one of the bravest monsters I've ever seen. No matter what the situation is, even if he's scared of it, Grover will do whatever he can to make sure it gets solved. He'd also take up a good chunk of jobs usually done by different staff members, so, that means less staff Hogwarts has to hire.

Count Von Count (Slytherin): A few people said the Count should be in Slytherin because of his vampire background, but I have a different reason for this choice. Slytherins are driven, mostly by the goals they have, and the Count only has one goal in his life: To count. The Count wouldn't stop until he's counted everyone and everything in Hogwartz.

Cookie Monster (Slytherin): There were a few people who said I should put Cookie in Hufflepuff, and I'm sure he himself would like to be put in Hufflepuff because that's the house closest to the kitchen, but after thinking it over, it just made sense to put Cookie in Slytherin, because like the Count, he has one goal: To eat cookies. And he will do anything he possibly can to make sure that happens. That doesn't mean he won't eat other things like spell books and Quidditch brooms, but it's cookies that he wants most.

Prairie Dawn (Ravenclaw): This one was just too easy. Prairie Dawn is someone who loves order, logic, and trying to contain the chaos that ensues around her every day. Ravenclaw to the T. Also, I'm sure she'd love to bring out the theatrical side of her fellow classmates.

Rosita (Hufflepuff): Rosita's muy muy grande heart, I feel makes her a good cannidate for Hufflepuff. And sure she does let her emotions get in the way of rules sometimes, but hey, nobody's perfect.

Telly Monster (Hufflepuff): Hufflepuffs show dedication, fair play, loyalty and hard work. Telly's constant worrying gives him the ability to practice all of those traits. He'd also get the chance to teach his classmates a thing or two on triangles.

Baby Bear (Gryffindor): Of Telly and Baby Bear, Baby Bear is the more daring one. He can also be a bit stubborn and passionate for his love of porridge and drawing. And he's also experienced oriented. He's endured Goldilocks his entire life.

Elmo (Hufflepuff): I had someone say Elmo should be in Gryffindor, but I always believed he belonged in Hufflepuff. Out of the four houses, I believe it represents love the most, and of the Sesame Street muppets, Elmo represents love the most. I mean, he doesn't say "Elmo loves you" all the time if he doesn't mean it, right?

Zoe (Hufflepuff): The muppet monsters really seem to be great Hufflepuff candidates, such is further evidence with Zoe, who may be one of the most well-rounded and accepting monsters there is. It won't matter if you're a person, an owl, or even a rock. Zoe will always be more than happy to be your friend. Just ask Rocco.

Abby Cadabby (Gryffindor): It only seems fitting that the only magic user on this list would land a spot in the most well known Hogwarts house. Abby is always ready to tackle a situation, more often or not, with magic. Though she's only 3 to 4 years old, she is very confident in her abilities, especially when it comes to turning things into pumpkins.

Kermit the Frog (Slytherin): Unlike the two first examples I mentioned, Kermit actually has a lot of goals, and they all depend on whatever he's doing. When he's giving a lecture, he wants to make sure to people he's talking to get the message, when he's reporting on Sesame Street news, he wants to to get the story he's assigned to get, when he's trying to get his crew on the Muppet Show in control, he wants to put on a show that will make people happy. Kermit is a very goal-driven frog.

Guy Smiley (Slytherin): Guy Smiley's goal, being America's Favorite Game Show Host, is to make sure people play his game shows, even if they don't necessarily wanna play along.

Forgetful Jones (Hufflepuff): Forgetful Jones' habit of, forgetting stuff kind of makes him the perfect candidate for Hufflepuff, cause even though doesn't remember things most of the time, he tries his best to remember. It's usually all for not, but he tries, and even with all that, he still a really nice guy.

Herry Monster (Ravenclaw): Herry does like to learn about things, it's just his godlike strength has a habit of messing things up. Nevertheless, I still think he'd be a great Ravenclaw.

Roosevelt Franklin (Griffyndor): I chose this cool cat for Gryffindor, because he knows a lot and is proud of it, but also knows how to have fun, and make his knowledge enjoyable for everyone else.

And last, but not least...

Oscar the Grouch (Slytherin): This was the most requested choice from the people I asked, and for good reason. While most Slytherins can be nice, some of them are known to be rather tricky, and a little bit grouchy. And there's no bigger grouch than Oscar, who's only goal in life is to be as miserable as possible. But let's not forget among all that grouchiness, lies someone who truly cares about the people he faces every day. (Otherwise he wouldn't have stuck with them for 51 years, and counting.)

And that's my list. What did you guys think? Was I reasonable in my choices? Please feel free to let me know.
